Organic Buko - The Original Sports Drink?

Organic Buko recently sent me some of their coconut water to try out and to give out to my Roller Derby Team (Wiltshire Roller Derby) after training sessions.

But first, a little about the company.

"...Our coconut water comes from organic, GMO free farms in the Philippines. It is also why we work with farmers to ensure they always get a fair price for their crop and only pick the best coconuts to go in our drinks. In fact Buko means a young green coconut in Filipino and we believe that this type of coconut, when grown without pesticides or fertilizers, produces the tastiest and freshest coconut water there is."

And it doesn't stop there. Buko is Certified Soil Association Organic (yay) and they also help save the rainforest

"We are proud to have teamed up with an amazing organization called Cuipo, who work with a number of brands around the world to help protect the planets rainforests. For every bottle of Buko that is purchased we donate a proportion of the income to Cuipo, who use it to secure and protect one square meter of rainforest."

Who wants to read about some of the health benefits of coconut water?

Full of essential vitamins and minerals
A great source of potassium
Naturally isotonic and great for rehydration
Contains anti-oxidants which regulate growth, development and ageing
Low calorie drink with zero fat and zero cholesterol
Aids digestion, cleanses the skin, and improves circulation

With all those benefits, it’s easy to see why coconut water is great for the body during and post exercise.
I’ve been drinking a lot of this stuff... I train with my team twice a week, I coach those new to the sport once a week and I also attend the gym and spin classes. I put my body through the wringer on a regular basis but this stuff is amazing for picking me up after a hard session and replaces everything that I’ve sweated out (sorry, TMI?!).

I've always been a coconut water fan but it was interesting handing bottles out to my teamies. Some were really keen and came back for more, others tried it but made a 'face’ while politely declining having any more, and the rest flat out said no. Most though were curious so I suppose that’s a good thing!
